Now the ‘changing course’ bit
My own change of course was caused by a stroke. The date: October 2006, when I was aged 41. The cause: a DVT in my leg (from flying to Boston). The effect: for one year, cognitively I was a mess. My short-term and long-term memory was shocking. My speech was terrible. I couldn’t concentrate or maintain levels of attention. Emotionally, I was a wreck.
Not great attributes for a CEO! I had to change course in my life. I had no choice. It was goodbye to my CEO role, and it was hello to a new life.
